Now, re-launch FFXI Config, open gamepad config, and click on the 'test gamepad' button. Everything should work. The reset, save, close, and re-open of the FFXI Gamepad Config was what was required for me. I did notice one time when I tried messing with XInput emulators and mappers that I had to unplug and re-plug the controller or un-pair and pair again with Bluetooth before it would work correctly again without the XInput emulation. Hope it helps.

I'm using a PS4 controller with the program Input Mapper but some buttons seem to get two functions and others are just mapped wrong. Would love to know how I could get it to work without breaking down and buying an Xbox controller.

InputMapper is the newer replacement for DS4Windows. It's developed by the same people, and is an evolution of DS4W. DS4W is no longer updated.

Just to point it out again though; when lag / latency occurs, it seems to only impact the controllers sending or consoles receiving ability - when i apparently break up over the mic and i feel the latency, i hear my friends chat consistent and without any loss of connection. Another way to discribe the lag / latency is that the controller feels as if its overloaded. I just cant make sense of it only being one way. Perhaps i will try to increase the distance to the PS4 to see if i can reproduce the same lag to test it out further.

The L3 button involves “clicking” or pressing the left stick down, while the R3 button means “clicking” or pressing the right stick down. So, I have a PS4 controller that I can connect to my PC via Bluetooth. Using ds4Windows by Jays2Kings, I was able to use the controller's touchpad as a mouse controller, and I have a add-on Nyko keyboard that works. Turns out that DA:O doesn't have native controller support. I am lost when it comes to mapping keyboard mouse to the controller, wirelessly.

This indicates the controller is in Bluetooth pairing mode. Finally, connect the controller to your computer like you’d. On Windows 10, you can open the Settings app from the Start menu, select “Devices,” and then select “Bluetooth.” The DualShock 4 will appear here as a “Wireless Controller” if it’s in pairing mode. Select the “Accessibility” category on the Setting screen that appears and press “X.” Scroll down on the Accessibility screen, select “Button Assignments,” and press “X.” Activate the “Enable Custom Button Assignments” option by pressing “X.” You’ll see a “Customize Button Assignments” option appear here. Select it and press “X.” The Customize Button Assignment screen allows you to remap one button to another. The button on the left represents the physical button on your controller, while the button on the right represents how the PS4 interprets it. For example, the first button here is “Triangle -> Triangle.” This means that, when you press the Triangle button on your controller, the console interprets that as a Triangle button press. Let’s say you want to swap Triangle and Square around. You’d select “Triangle -> Triangle” and press “X.” You can then choose “Square” from the list that appears. That button press will now read “Triangle -> Square.” This means that, when you press the Triangle button on your controller, the PS4 will interpret this as a Square button press.

The PS4’s Dualshock 4 controller is one of the best controllers for gaming but it’s a shame that it cannot be used on Windows or any other OS to play games. Microsoft on the other hand has been receiving much love from gamers because their Xbox controller can be used with a PC and all major games come with inbuilt support for the Xbox 360 controller. The PS4’s Dualshock 4 controller is not officially supported by Windows, however there are third party tools for Windows, such as InputMapper which enables PS4 users to use the Dualshock 4 controller on a PC. I have personally tried InputMapper to use the Dualshock 4 controller on my PC and it works great.
