Perhaps that doesn't transfer across from Mapsource? Try creating a waypoint in Basecamp and see what you get? I get the 3 tabs as well when clicking on the waypoint. But up in the left corner under 'My Collection' I don't get anything else other then the file I have made from MS that contains all my routes, waypoints put into catorgories like I described above. All the waypoints show on the left but no where I can see how to put or show them in the catagories like in MS. You must know MS. On the left side is a tab that say's 'All Catagories' then you can click on the tab and find a catagory you've made in 'Preferences'.Defaulted they are named Catagory 1 and so on.
They actually upgraded the MapSource program, but the map data stayed the same. For the Legend get Metroguide (It does not support auto routing) CitySelect is for Garmins that have auto routing Exactly. However, if you are considering adding an autorouting unit in the near future, you might want to go ahead and get City Select.

I received a Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx for christmas and it came with a cut-down version of Mapsource called 'Trip and Waypoint Manager.' It seems to do much the same as mapsource for waypoints etc but not a whole lot else. I've been talking with a few of the 4WD guys at work and they recommend shonkymaps over Tracks4Australia but you have to pay for that one, but its cheapre than the pro version of Tracks4Australia.

Just to echo that this technique still works (the technique of the original post) For the guy just a few post back (dmillermail) I was walking a friend through this from across country. He got the same message so we started over again.
That is a MapSource product. The timing of my nuvi 660 purchase was just a little too late. It came with the 2008 maps when I got it in February and therefore I was not eligible for a 'free' upgrade to the 2009 maps. I decided not to spend the money to buy the 2009 maps. I'll see where I am when the 2010 maps come out next year. That's what I do with my MS&T, buy a new copy every 2 years.
Mapsource rendering of OSM data MapSource is software from for viewing maps, waypoints, routes and tracks, and transferring them to or from a Garmin GPS device. It is included with some Garmin GPS devices, and with some Garmin map products. MapSource runs on Windows. It may also run on Linux using Wine, see. Updated versions of MapSource are available to download free of charge. But these will not install unless you have a previous version already installed.
So one way to trick the program to read map files is to store them on SD cards and attach them to the Mac. So far, I have tried having 2 maps - one under a Garmin folder and another under a Maps folder, and it appears the the program will pick up from the Garmin folder? Still not very sure about this. Will do more test to ascertain this. Trouble is, the moment the SD card is ejected, connection to the map is lost. Is there a way to upload the maps permanently onto the Mac such that Basecamp can always refer to them without the need to attach the SD card?
You can buy extra maps like the topo or waterways and download them to your GPS. The same MapSource program works with whatever maps that you own. You can search for addresses and POI's and you can build a route or save waypoints.
Did it and all i got was the basemap. Missing alot of roads in between the majors. Am i missing something? Have the nuvi 850.
This is also a great tool for viewing maps, or planning routes and tracks. Download and Install at least two VeloMaps (from ) • 3.

Thanks for your assistance, Nick. > Mapsource is free to download Have you seen this note in all the pages where MapSource can be downloaded? 'WARNING: This software will not work unless you already own a MapSource product.' Have you tried installing MapSource in a second computer?
But I still have it available if I want to take that trip again in the future. Here is another question to help me decide if Mapsource is for me and otheres with similar Garmins: Will route files made with mapsource function in the Garmin Nuvi 260W if they are loadedf into the device as POI (.gpx) under their own folder? By the way, I went to Amazon.com to see what they sell under the Mapsource search quesry. There is much to ponder once you see the big assortment of stuff. Price is not cheap.
It is weird to see company unable to implement their own proprietary format of map data. There is a big search index included in each Garmin map but BaseCamp seems to be unable to use it like Mapsource or nuvi. Pengertian metode kualitatif pdf. As you enter the city name if there are multiple cities a dropdown apears with all the cities in that map database.
The program doesn't scan your internal hard drive, but when you have a USB drive connected it will scan that one (with a lot of (img) files on it will take some time.). You can override that in the settings of JDM by checking 'Scan all drives'. The manual doesn't mention it (yet), but this option gives you the opportunity to choose which drives it has to scan (and which not).
Compability and license Garmin MapSource is licensed as shareware for the Windows operating system from mapping and can be used as a free trial until the trial period ends (after an unspecified number of days). I have a relatively large number of GPS units registered with Garmin under my name, and I am in charge of updating the maps, etc. People who will not touch a computer -or just use them as minimum as possible- are nonetheless hooked to the growing GPS usage trend. They have no idea what a USB cable is.
The Spoon, and your eyes and hands: Mapsource The Cereal: different flavors of TOPO, City Select, Blue Charts, MetroGuide. The stomach: the size of the GPS memory Excellent analogy. People often refer to MapSource when they are actually referring to their map data or vice versa. They say they have City Select V6 and upgraded to V6.5.
Then click Next. Click Backup my unlock codes to a file. Then click Next.
I selected City Navigator from the dropdown menu, went to find, entered the address and it instantly came back with a list that included it. Perhaps the North America map is more 'seamless' when it comes to US States vs different sovereign countries? If I search for an address on a long street, it can show it on 2-nd page of results, even if the house number much exactly. Have you notice that there is second page?;) I agree with this one. Why, if you enter the exact street address, the results can list the address your looking for half way down the page, or as popej says, on the 2nd page? It would seem logical that it would be at the top of the list.

Hi, I'm new to this and followed your steps and it works! (Thanks Xopher!) However I live in South Africa and purchased a nuvi 310 with the Southern Africa map on SD card. When I go onto Mapsource it only gives me the 'rather plain mapsource map'. How do I go about getting the map from my nuvi onto Mapsource so that I can have more detail.
Most of the people > that have the units don't care about MapSource, because they are > satisfied with the preinstalled US Maps. Now I see why BC was unable to read.img files since these are basically Windows based files. Under Mac environment, the equivalent of a.img file is.gmap as highlighted by Boyd. Wondering if there is kind of a file converting utility that can do a proper conversion so that such files can be picked up by BC in a Mac? I am pretty new to Mac as well and Boyd has introduced the Mac Disk Utility program, I will put in some effort to understand how this program will work. In my earlier post, I mentioned being able to read the.img files previously with Mapsource.
Did I miss something? I dragged a map file in Windows' img format to JaVaWa's MapConverter, there is no response from MapConverter when it is supposed to do a conversion from the img format to Mac's gmapi format.
In 1999: Flight International magazine presented UPS Aviation Technologies with its Aerospace Industry Award for the development of ADS-B, a surveillance technology intended to reduce aviation delays while improving safety. Wristwear Garmin produces activity trackers and sports watches, aimed at activities such as running, watersports, golf, cycling and swimming with sensors such as heart rate and gps.
First, copy the contents of the device to a USB flash drive. Basecamp will treat it exactly like the actual GPS. To install it on the computer without any external device, use the Mac Disk Utility program to create a disk image, then copy the contents of your GPS to the image. This can then be mounted on your Mac and will behave exactly the same as connecting the GPS itself. You can do the same thing on Windows using a virtual disk program, but every Mac comes with the Disk Utility program while you would need to download a third party program on Windows. Thank you both Boyd and Sussamb for the pointers.
Not sure about 1) as I don't have a mac, but if you had map files that were accessible in Mapsource they should work automatically in Basecamp, at least they did when I installed Basecamp. Or are these new.img files that you didn't have working in Mapsource?

Rename the pc_basemap2.img to something else, like: pc_basemap2OLD.img. Finally, rename the map file from your GPS to pc_basemap2.img. Run MapSource and you should see all roads and points of interest etc. I only had the base map.
I'm not an expert in the nuances of the various Garmin units, but my observation is that the 27xx, 28xx, zumo, and maybe some others seem to be more targeted toward users who want to upload and download routes, tracks, and waypoints, as well as create routes in software and then transfer them to the GPS. Those seem to ship with the mapping CD and MapSource software. The Nuvi series, which seem fairly high-end for the user who just wants a GPS in the vehicle without the ability to do all the other stuff, apparently don't ship with the software or CD.

Is it just the same map that is on your gps or something? Can someone please explain this to me so I know what is going on. I think that I'm missing out on something important as far as the features that go with my Nuvi 780.
I'm having troubles getting a current map to work with MapSource. I have a map update (That I cant use - see below). Someone posted a, how to copy a map from your gps (or elsewhere. The.img format does not work on the Mac, only on Windows. All maps for Mac Basecamp must be in the.gmap format. This gets pretty technical and confusing -.img files on your GPS are not the same as the type of.img files used by Mapsource. I will spare you the details. Generally speaking, only maps provided by Garmin pre-loaded on a device or a card will be visible in Basecamp when connected.
Drivers can work one day, and suddenly stop working the next day, for a variety of reasons. The good news is that you can often update the device driver to fix the EXE problem.
