Answer based on comments. PHP file must be interpreted by web server (in your case - apache with php extension, which is part of XAMPP), which executes PHP code and sends script output/result via http protocol to web browser. To execute PHP script and show it's result you have to use HTTP, like this: c: xampp htdocs directory is 'served' at URL. Opening that file via filesystem (not using apache server) will output blank page, because browser is not supposed to execute PHP. However, that blank page will contain your static HTML part of code. It looks like, you dont understand how PHP works. You need to read some books about web fundamentals.

I get the exact same initial screen of Localhost with Index of/ at the top of the page followed by testsite.com listed as the only folder. However when I click the folder I get a second screen with Index of/testsite.com atop the page listing a Parent Directory underneath below which is a lone file called index.php.txt. Upon clicking this php.txt? File I can access my saved index.php file. Is this a really big deal? Or can I just resume work having the extra click thru screen???

Or can I just resume work having the extra click thru screen??? I just tested things on my laptop (an HP that uses Windows 7), and got the same result as Zac. When I type 'localhost' in the browser, my 'testsite.com' folder appears in the directory, and when I click on that folder, the browser shows the word 'Test'. But you're saying when you click on the folder you get the index.php file appearing, and then when you click on that, it takes you to 'Test' on the browser?

This development folder will contain projects for web, mobile, and other environments. The way I set it up, is I have a c: dev folder, that will contain a list of my projects, each project is on its own. So, for example, c: dev project1, c: dev project2 and so on. Now, after I create those folders for development, I make sure that the httpd-vhosts.conf file (located at c: xampp apache conf extra ) and the hosts file (located at c: Windows System32 drivers etc ) have the correct references. Lets assume that one of my projects is called project1.

I use a Mac to do all of my Treehouse work, so I'm not too familiar with Windows, but perhaps something went wrong or was missed when you created the file and folder and/or installed XAMPP? Just a suggestion, but maybe you could redo the whole thing and double-check it follows exactly what Zac is doing/has typed. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge will chime in.

An alternate way to handle this is with the use of Virtual Hosts. A virtual host acts like a second version of localhost that works specifically for a subfolder.
