Gnome Bonuses to illusion spells (and illusion spells are very good for a gish), and bonus to Constitution. Solid choice, though between Small size and Strength penalty, it’s a far better choice for a ranged character than a melee one. The is strictly superior to the default rock gnome, by the way.

It deals slightly less (potential) damage, but is more reliable. Or, you know, leave the damage dealing to my friend the Barbarian. Who could already do a hundred HP of damage ten levels ago.

Also note the Sublime Chord (Complete Arcane) prestige class for getting your spellcasting back up to snuff. Duskblade A solid “gish-in-a-can”, the duskblade from Player’s Handbook II gets a very useful ability to channel touch spells through an attack. In return for abandoning her continuing study of bardic music, a sublime chord instead masters a number of spells more powerful than most bards can ever use.

Thanks Pyromaniac, I need to get around to playing one of these soon. Originally posted by yontra: Was curious, under the requirements it states: Special: Trackless step class feature. He's spent 10 days in service to the avatar of Ra, in his role as the Egyptian gatherer of souls, as we guided those souls down the Nile to the Palace of Two Truths (halls of judgment). And he's been to the gateways of the land of the dead so many time the gatekeepers know him by name. He has shared drinks with Hades, by the shore of the river Styx. For these reasons, among others, he's been banished from his home village. The elders said, 'Death follows you like a loyal hound, and you call it to your side for comfort.' The simple fact is, some of his friends are scarier than his enemies. In some ways, he looks forward to his own death.

Druid 3/bard 4: While this combination is possible, you are really just giving yourself suboptimal arcane spellcasting in return for some bard abilities that will never advance. If you are interested in a druid/bard multiclass, consider the fochlucan lyrist (CAdv) instead. The Green Whisperer PRC (Dragon Magazine #311) helps mitigate this a little, and Sublime Chord takes it the rest of the way. This combo really is one of the easier ways to get to 9th level divine & arcane spells, though probably not the most optimized. Originally posted by Pyromantic: I see Sublime Chord mentioned often, and I can see why; it's a great class. I don't have Dragon 311 though for Green Whisperer, and I imagine that's true for many players who might use this guide. What I should probably do is link to a good post on Green Whisperer/Sublime Chord/Fochlucan Lyrist builds for anyone interested (I'm sure I saw one).

This question: is related. But I am specifically looking to optimize for high targeted damage output and have no need to balance between sword and spell if focusing on one is more effective. I have considered the duskblade and that may be the best answer, but as I have limited experience with 3.5 I want to find out if I should use a pure duskblade, a duskblade which steps into other classes, or some other class I have not considered. In this particular case, the characters will start at level 7, and equipment rules are liberal as long as the characters can afford it. I'm not sure how long this will last so I am focused on the next few levels instead of trying to plan all the way out to 20. It will be a party of 5. Not all of the rest of the characters have been fully fleshed out, but we will have a cleric and a wizard.

But ultimately, if I was going to do this, I would go farther. As is, I don’t see the point in doing so and feel like it makes things more complicated (you’re modifying existing casting; that’s not really a thing that happens in 3.5).

No penalties, and gives a bonus feat of your choice. That hits priorities 1-5, and almost nothing else is going to hit #5. Consider the Azurin ( Magic of Incarnum), which is a human that trades the bonus skill point for a point of Essentia. Essentia is fairly useful if you can spare feats for Shape Soulmeld and/or Open Chakra. Also, the Silverbrow Human ( Dragon Magic) is a good choice if the (Dragonblood) subtype is necessary for anything you like (especially important for bards; see below). Dwarf Mediocre choice on its own (bonuses to Constitution and saving throws are nice, but not nearly as good as a bonus feat), but allows entry into the excellent Runesmith prestige class. Gray Elf / Fire Elf The or get bonuses to Intelligence from Core/SRD material, and the Races of the Wild elven generalist wizard variant is rather solid.

Gate is the obvious powerhouse option. Nothing matches this spell in sheer power. It's rather ridiculous, actually, even with the XP cost. A thousand XP is OK to afford for the additional firepower it can give you in boss battles. Wish is mostly a plot device IMO, even though it can be a (costly) way to gain more options.

8) Summon Monster IX / Elemental Monolith - All battles need could use even more monsters to keep track of. Download lagu mp3 avenged sevenfold Note at start: I'm arguing from a 'what's good' standpoint here, not from a 'might fit your character' standpoint. For sheer versatility, which a Bard's small spells known list might lack, there is and there always will be Shapechange (as you pointed out yourself), and I'd much rather use that on myself than PAO! Unlimited options at your fingertips. Decide with your DM beforehand whether you'd gain a Planetar's spellcasting, though. Also, Shades is rather better than many people give it credit for. It isn't limited to the Summoning and Creation subschools (like Shadow Conjuration is), so you can use it to replicate e.g.

DEFENSIVE BUFFS Both druid and arcane spells can provide a significant boost to AC. The druid spells (and wild shaping) are most often related to natural armour, while arcane spells have several armour and shield bonuses, which means that you can stack a lot of effects. At 11th level (druid 4/wizard 3/AH 4), wild shaped into a cave ankylosaurus (Mini, AC 24) and with the spells bite of the wereboar (SpC, +8 enhancement to natural), greater mage armour (SpC, +6 armour), shield (+4 shield), reduce person (+1 for size, +1 for dex) and cat’s grace (+2 for dex) up, your AC is a whopping 46. Add to that spells like greater invisibility or greater mirror image (PHb2), and very few things will ever hit you. This is an ideal situation in which you have the time and slots to cast several spells (some of which have short duration), but the defensive potential here is staggering.

Song of Arcane Power (Su): A sublime chord of 2nd level or higher with 12 or more ranks in a Perform skill learns how to use her bardic music to assist her spellcasting. As a move action, she can prepare to cast a spell by giving voice to the song of power. The next spell she casts gains a bonus to its caster level based on the result of the sublime chord?s Perform check: Perform Check Result Caster Level Increase 9 or lower +0 10 to 19 +1 20 to 29 +2 30 or higher +4 The spell to be enhanced by the song of arcane power must be cast by the end of the sublime chord?s next turn, or else the song fades with no effect (other than consuming a bardic music use). Song of Timelessness (Su): A sublime chord of 6th level or higher with 16 or more ranks in a Perform skill knows the song of timelessness.

The answer may be 'duskblade', but that's not clear to me yet. – Dec 17 '13 at 1:46 •. Spells and Swords The typical “goal” of a gish is 9th-level powers or spells (usually a minimum of 17 effective levels in the manifesting or spellcasting class) and BAB +16 (full four attacks from BAB, usually a minimum of 11 full-BAB levels). Race Generally speaking, your priorities are: • No LA or RHD. Either means lost spellcasting for that level.

All three races suffer multiclassing penalties. Gnomes have Bard as their favored class, Halflings have Rogue, and Raptorans have Cleric. Illumians make a good choice. They multiclass like humans. Also, it's a controversial but common interpretation of the racial feat Improved Sigil ( krau) that it lets you enter into Arcane Hierophant with only a single level of Wizard. This makes Druid 4/Wizard 1/Arcane Hierophant 10/Mystic Theurge 5 a viable build that grants 19th level Druid casting and 16th level Wizard casting. Originally posted by Pyromantic.

Might be interesting on a paladin 2/duskblade 3 entry. You might even be able to finagle entry into sublime chord (see below) after that, to put your spellcasting in a better place. Sublime Chord This prestige class from Complete Arcane gets you 9th-level charisma-based spells off the Sor/Wiz in as many levels. As such, it is an amazing way to “catch up” if you are behind. This one is generally for bards, though an entry that uses Harmonious Knight paladin 2 and sorcerer 6 -or- sha’ir 5 might be better, since it gets you Divine Grace.

For dirty tricks for entry there are also Sanctum Spell Earth Spell (heighten a catnip to 1st lvl spell, earth spell boosts it now to a 2nd lvl spell) The previous two leave a really bad taste in my mouth since they are dependent on location Finally there is also versatile spellcaster in Races of the Dragon. Only works if your arcane is spontaneous. You can use two lower level slots to cast a higher level spell.

No one else shall! 6) Disjunction (PHB) - Because you can. 7) Superior Invisibility - Even Death can't find you.

• No penalty to your spellcasting ability score. • No penalty to Constitution. • No penalty to Strength (unless ranged or finesse, in which case replace this with Dexterity). • Relevant bonus feats. • Bonus to your spellcasting ability score. • Bonus to relevant caster levels.

The very words for fulfillment are derived from the name of my people: To Sate, Satiate or Satisfy. Thus, wherever we go, it is our nature that there should always be an abundance of good food, good drink, and good music.' Necessity has forced him to be the main offensive spell caster in the group, not because he's a big time blaster, but because nobody else has really stepped up to the job.

Hexblade The hexblade from Complete Warrior is, sadly, pretty weak. The author even admitted as much in hindsight; that early in 3.5’s development ( Complete Warrior was the first supplement published) they over- and under-estimated quite a lot of things. As a result, the hexblade gets too little spellcasting too late; the only really nice thing they get is Arcane Resistance (Cha to saves vs.

Spells) and the Player’s Handbook II ACF that swaps the 4th-level Familiar for the excellent Dark Companion. Viable for a two-level dip to do a non-LG sorcadin, but otherwise pretty meh. Bear in mind that Divine Grace is vastly superior to Arcane Resistance, since Divine Grace is not only vs.

( Heroes Feast and Grand Estate, which is a variant on Magnificent Mansion) So when he throws a party, it's a hell of a party. His view/explanation on this is, 'Satyr's are, by nature, spirits of fulfillment.

Instead I’d want sublime chord to be enterable earlier while taking longer. That would actually “smooth” the character progression a bit. Something like this: Prerequisites • Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 10 ranks, Listen 10 ranks, Perform (any) 7 ranks, Profession (astrologer) 4 ranks, Spellcraft 4 ranks. • Spells: Able to cast 2nd-level spells. • Special: Bardic music ability This lets you take your first level at 8th instead of 11th. Then I would replace the sublime chord’s Spells per Day class feature with the following: Spellcasting A sublime chord treats the spellcasting of the bard class as using the Spells per Day and Spells Known tables below, rather than those printed in Player’s Handbook. A sublime chord treats all spells on the sorcerer/wizard spell list as being on her bard spell list.

Ultimately, that spell list is much weaker, though still plenty powerful, and wu jen do have a few unique spells that are worthwhile for a gish (such as giant’s size for the rare multiple-category size increase, and the various ribbon spells which require a real attack, rather than a touch attack, to land). Psion Intelligence-based psionic manifester, though he plays more like a sorcerer in terms of mechanics. A number of powers are quite useful here, though you may need Expanded Knowledge for some of the best of them. The psicrystal is also very useful: manifesting share pain on it and then sharing a vigor power between you effectively doubles the amount of temporary hit points that vigor gives you, and having your psicrystal handle concentrating on control body effectively allows you to use your intelligence score for your attack stats, which is very nice (and otherwise very difficult). Erudite Complete Psionics offers a psion variant called the erudite, with much more wizard-like mechanics.

I’m only going to bother with two. Suel Arcanamach This class from Complete Arcane is pretty cool, though honestly you are way, way better off just going straight battle sorcerer (and remember, I consider battle sorcerer quite poor). Still, it’s simple, it has nice class features, and it does well out of the box.

These choices become particularly effective for the AH since you likely have the spell slots and a wider range of spells to combine. SPELL OVERLAP In many cases the AH may have access to a spell from both of their spell lists, which can be a significant advantage. A wizard or sorcerer AH can still cast bull’s strength without learning it, freeing up other selections. In some cases a spell may appear at different levels for each list (the bite line from SpC is lower for druid than sorcerer/wizard, while dispel magic is higher), so you can access the spell a little easier on one side. Often spells may not be identical but similar enough to fulfill the same role (fireball and flame strike). This allows a great deal of flexibility in spell selection. For example, if you really like scorching ray but want to use your 2nd-level arcane slots for other things, you can memorize splinterbolt (SpC) in a druid slot and have nearly the same thing.
